Lladro Season in Bloom - Bird. Size: 12.5" x 8.75"
This is part of the collection around the concept of Hanami (blossoming).
The Azure-winged Magpie inhabits various types of coniferous and broadleaf forest, including parks and gardens in the eastern populations. It occurs in two population groups separated by a huge geographical region in between (one lives in the southwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula and the other population occurs over a much larger region of eastern Asia in most of China, Korea, north into Mongolia, and Japan).
As part of the Season in Bloom collection, the flowers are cherry tree blossoms, as requested by these Japanese traditions. As a matter of fact, these porcelain flower petals have been assessed by experts in Japan, who actually requested this collection as a very popular subject matter for the Japanese market. However, the season of blossoming is a worldwide phenomenon easy to understand by any person in any culture, evoking feelings of beauty, and cheerfulness.
At first sight, one would think that the bird is in motion on the point of landing, this confers the piece with extraordinary movement and give it an almost realistic style. The feeling was extremely difficulty to achieve and required a thorough study of the base. The same is true for the large flowers which have a very small point of support, making the execution very complicated.
