The exact origin of polo is not known for sure, but it is believed to have begun in Persia in the 5th century BC, when the cavalry used it as a game to train its elite riders. Today, it is practiced in 77 countries worldwide, and is particularly popular in Argentina, Chile, England , USA, Dubai, Thailand and almost regions in Asia. Inspired by the world's leading tournaments, Polo Player is a piece full of movement and energy in which we see the horse literally suspended in the air as the rider is getting ready to hit the ball. In polo, the coordination between rider and pony is a key element in the game. Applying pressure with his knees, leaning his body weight and using the hand that holds the reins, the player can transmit to the pony what he wants at any moment. The sculptor of this piece is a horse lover who has created other works featuring this noble animal (Arabian pure breed, Horse race, At the derby, among the most recent examples). He has captured the tension in the rider's and the horse's musculature to perfection, while the folds in the rider's kit further enhance the sense of movement and speed. The piece's only point of support with the wooden base is the perspex element which is attached to the horse's belly. This technical solution helps to transmit the sensation that the horse and rider are literally suspended in the air. White porcelain, combining glazed and matte. The wood base and the perspex support are attached to the piece. The mallet used for hitting the ball is made of wood. 24 x 19.75
