Mother Nature is an allegory, a representation of nature that focuses on the life-giving and nurturing features of nature by embodying it in the form of the mother. Images of women representing mother earth, and mother nature, are timeless. In prehistoric times, goddesses were worshipped for their association with fertility, fecundity and agricultural bounty.
Though simple in appearance, this piece is full of contrasts. The realist modeling of the mother and the baby stands out against the more abstract forms of the tree. The white matte finish of the main characters contrasts with the gloss of the luster used in the tree top, or the grey hue of the branches. A piece playing with a combination of styles and finishes.
