This piece depicts two male mandarin ducks, considered the most handsome of their species thanks to the beautiful range of bright colors in their plumage.
Glazed porcelain with a perfect combination of enamels and saturated colors. The birds have a red bill and a crescent with a mix of green and dark blue. One can also appreciate a more maroon color on the tips of the long feathers on their crests. The plumage around their eyes is cream white while the feathers of their cheeks are longer and orange colored. The neck is purple while the belly and chest are cream white. The lower part of the neck has three rings of white separated by three rings of black. The plumage under these rings is an orangey brown. The feathers on the bottom, raised like "sails", are orange. The feathers of the tail itself are blue and black on the bottomand brown and grey on the top. 18.5" H x 13.5" L
