Flowers are one of the Lladro's signature elements and it is precisely in these compositions that they can be appreciated in all their glory. Each one is made entirely by hand in an artisan process which demands great skill and dexterity, not only when it comes to modeling the petals and leaves, but also in putting them together, giving them the proper form without altering other parts of the arrangement. It is worth remembering that this whole process is made with unfired and therefore particularly delicate porcelain paste.
The outcome of this work is a series of exquisitely beautiful compositions that only Nature itself could possibly match. A different flower has been chosen for each one: lavatera blossoms, orchids, lilies. These varieties are then surrounded by other flowers and plants which are either borrowed from nature or the fruit of the artist's imagination. The Lilies centerpiece is joined to the wood base as well as including a glass dome that protects the delicate floral arrangement in a discreet and elegant fashion.
The Madonna lily is often described as being the basis of the fleur de lis, though the shape of this stylized flower more strongly resembles that of a flag iris. Madonna lilies are depicted on wall paintings at the Minoan palace of Knossos. In King Solomon's Temple there were designs of Madonna lilies on the columns and the brazen Sea (Laver). The Madonna Lily symbolizes purity for Roman Catholics. Medieval depictions of the Blessed Virgin Mary often show her holding these flowers. Limited edition of 500 pieces. Base included 11 x 9 x 9"
