Lladro Imperial Dragon Fan. Limited Edition of 2,000 units. 21" H x 14" W
A porcelain piece that represents a classical European fan but with a painting inspired by oriental drawings.
The central elements are the five-clawed dragons, red and green. They romp over a sea against a blue and grey background of rolling clouds and seas. They are depicted playing with a pearl surrounded by fire, much like the dragons that appear on the Nine Dragons Wall in the Beihai (North Sea) Park in Beijing.
Dragons are legendary creatures, typically with serpentine or otherwise reptilian traits, that feature in the myths of worldwide cultures. In Asia they are particularly popular, being considered water deities associated with rainfall and bodies of water, and are typically depicted as large, wingless, serpentine creatures with clawed feet.
The piece is conceived to be displayed either on the wooden base (included) or with a device that allows it to be wall-hanged with the hooks on its backboard and leaving the base apart (approx. weight 4 kilos).
