Lladro Gyrfalcon 16.25 x 13.75 Limited edition of 3,000 units
Lladro has created a stunning piece which faithfully reproduces the features of the majestic gyrfalcon, believed to be the "king of the birds" in the Middle Ages because its rarity meant that only kings and wealthy noblemen were able to own them. The gyrfalcon is the largest species of falcon and Lladro has depicted it at almost life size. Perched on a shrub growing among rocks, this bird of prey is motionless and alert, with its large inquisitive eyes searching for something that draws its attention or moves within its field of vision. Their beauty, skill and daring in hunting have earned these birds the consideration of princes of falconry. Today gyrfalcons are so expensive that many owners and breeders keep them secret to avoid possible thefts.
Made in classic porcelain, worth noting is the realism in the coloring, as well as the way of applying the paint which allows us to appreciate the details of the bird's plumage, especially on its head. Enamels were also used for the branches of the shrub and for the rocks.
