Lladro Cherub on a Peacock Limited edition of 1,000 units
The Angel and the Peacock offers another viewpoint of angels, a classic theme in the Lladro catalogue, but from an innovative perspective in terms of the focus adopted by the sculptor. On this occasion the sculptor borrowed his inspiration from baroque angels or "putti", in which a worldly character, opulence and celebration of life replaced the more celestial view of angels prior to this period.
These more playful and hedonistic features of life are reinforced by the majesty and wealth of the plumage of a peacock, a creature which has been attributed countless meanings down through the ages. Because of its great beauty, this bird is considered a symbol of vanity, pride and arrogance by certain cultures, while others have looked on it as a symbol of good luck, harmony, serenity and spiritual peace.
