Each lithophane is formed by a deep saucer and a bell-shaped piece with a chimney hole to let the flame breathe. When a lit candle is placed inside, the engravings are revealed thanks to the porcelain transparency. The collection offers different motifs engraved on the porcelain, starting a line of products that will grow in the future. Each lithophane is offered together with a saucer or individually as a shade to be displayed with the metallic holders. The toucans’ engravings also reflect the natural scene of these birds with their unmistakable peak and bamboo canes.
Lithophane means "transparent stone", and refers to those designs engraved on porcelain or stone (alabaster or transparent marmor) that when light is applied from inside or from its back, appear with three-dimension effect. Best known are Bernardaud Lithophanes (or candle votives), although there has been many makers and carvers in 19th century applied arts. All lithophanes include one unit of tea candle (unscented) as the complimentary accessory to start using the item. Therefore, one candle is always provided with the porcelain parts, but not with the metallic holders.
Metal holders made of steel, with a Lladró logo engraved on the base. Packaging for porcelain: special gift box as the Christmas ornaments, but in blue corporate color, label with silhouette of the engraving, with a different shape and size if it is the full votive light or only the shade
