Herends Reserve Collection Buddha is modeled after a smaller version sculpted in 1937 by Kata Gacser. The chinoiserie design decorating Buddhas robe was created in 1996 to symbolize autumn, with its glorious colors of nature offset by a sense of mourning over the pending harshness of winter. The skills of eighteen Herend craftspeople are required to create each piece, which takes over a day to paint.
