If you are reading this and thinking “what in the world is he talking about, single malt, single grain, scotch, whiskey, isn’t all the same really?”  Here is a little whiskey 101 that might help clear things up a bit.  When a whiskey is called “scotch” this is simply indicating that it is from Scotland – world renowned for their scotch whisky.  The term “single” implies that the whiskey comes from a single distillery.  “Malt” means that is was made exclusively of water, malted barely and yeast, and “grain” means that the whiskey is made from unmalted barley, and finally, a “blended” whiskey contains both single malt and single grain whiskey- So a single malt scotch is a Scottish whiskey created in one distillery using only water, malted barely and yeast. Make sense? Hopefully that helps define things a little better, of course it’s up to the drinker to decided which he or she favors more.

As for Fine Flavor Whisky by Villeroy & Boch, we are very excited to be adding this to our barware collection, and even more excited to try them for ourselves at some point.  Until then, we will have to live vicariously through you, so please let us know what you think! 😉
